Brrr! I had no idea this cold snap would last so long and be so.... cold! It's hard to adjust after we had record-breaking highs just a couple weeks ago, and now have record-breaking lows. Aah, Calgary weather!
I haven't put away the hoses or drained the rain barrels yet, and I still have carrots and beets in the ground! If we get the chinook that we're supposed to get this week-end, you know what I'll be doing. Finishing my October gardening to-do list...
Not to mention that the extra-warm September followed by sudden extreme cold is not good for the plants, especially trees. Not only have my Mountain Ash and Cotoneasters not had the chance to turn their glorious day-glow orange shades, but this early cold is actually bad for tree health because they haven't had a chance to slow down and prepare for winter. See Donna Balzer's post to find out more.
I'm worried about my trees as well. My poor mountain ash are just frozen green. And I haven't finished all the deep watering I want to do this year.
Looking forward to the mild weekend!
