I have several of these in my front yard garden because I like the leaf colour (deep purple in spring, bronzy-brown in summer). They are surviving, but not thriving, due to the 5 large spruce trees that make the soil very dry.
Still, they make great plants for the front of the border because they are compact (30 cm wide and 20 cm tall) and the flowers look nice in arrangements, too.
Heuchera is a trendy plant these days and there are all sorts of new varieties with frilly leaves and cool colours. However, some are not tried-and-true hardy in Calgary (making many of them very expensive annuals). This variety is hardy and cheap!
spec's: prefers moisture but will tolerate dry soil, prefers afternoon shade
